Parliament House (Website) will be hosting an 80’s-themed ball on August 4, featuring Dominique Jackson who plays ELEKTRA on FX’s POSE.
Shows are scheduled to take place at 10 p.m. and midnight with a runway walk-off at 12:45 p.m. Jackson will be a guest judge of the ballroom competition, followed by a VIP meet-and-greet and photo opportunity, available for $25.
The ballroom community is an underground LGBTQ subculture where people walk for trophies and prizes in categories that emulate or drag other genders and social classes. Most people who participate in balls are part of larger groups, or “houses,” that often act as surrogate families.
Popular categories include:
- Butch Queen Realness – Ability to appear as a heterosexual male
- Femme Queen Realness – Ability to appear as a cisgender woman
- Body – Someone who looks healthy and attractive.
