Arguably one of the most thrilling movies ever made, Seven Samurai, is turning 70 years old this year and to celebrate, Enzian Theater will host a special screening, featuring the 4K restoration, starting this Friday.
The three-hour film tells the story of a sixteenth-century Japanese village that hires seven unlikely warriors to protect them from invading bandits and features legendary performances by Toshiro Mifune and Takashi Shimura. At the time, it was the most expensive film ever made in Japan, and it took a whole year to shoot.
It’s regarded as the most remade and referenced films in cinema, with a stream of films like The Magnificent Seven, The Invincible Six, Battle Beyond the Stars, and even A Bug’s Life being inspired by its plot.
Enzian will screen it multiple times from Friday, August 2 to Wednesday, August 7, with matinee showings on the weekend.
