Enzian hosting matinee screening of “My Girl” to emotionally scar a new generation of children

Enzian Theater (Instagram | Website) will be hosting a screening of “My Girl” as part of its ongoing hit Peanut Butter Matinee Family Film series on Sunday, May 29 at noon.

The classic coming of age tale shares the story of Vada Sultenfuss, whose mother died while giving birth to her, and her dad, Dan Akroyd, runs a funeral service out of her house. The kids in the neighborhood think she’s weird, and her best friend Thomas, played by Macaulay Culkin, is just as unpopular as she is and allergic to everything. The two share a kiss (Culkin’s first on-screen smooch, btw), she loses her mood ring, and when (spoiler alert) Thomas goes to look for it later on his own he gets stung by a bunch of bees and dies.

At the time, the movie was shocking and sent loads of kids (who had come to love Culkin via the insane popularity of his “Home Alone” series) home with emotional overload and the loss of their childhood innocence. And probably a deep-seated hatred of bees.

Peanut Butter Matinee films are free for children under the age of 12 and $9 for adults and can be reserved HERE. The therapy you’ll be paying for years later for your children, however, is priceless.
