Orlando lost two of its biggest fans this past week. Gino Nicolas, a staunch supporter of the Parramore community, and Morgan Steele, a beloved Orlando painter known for his eccentric takes on Orlando living. Both men were unabashed cheerleaders of Orlando.

Nicolas worked with various community efforts like My Brother’s Keeper, to end violence in his hometown neighborhood of Parramore. He worked with at-risk teens and the Orlando Police Department to fight youth crime. He was killed in a drive-by shooting outside the Landings at Carver Park on the evening of Saturday, April 16, which injured five other people.

Yo can contribute to a gofundme campaign to help cover funeral costs for Nicolas HERE.

Steele was a prolific painter. He used any canvas he could get his brush on; cars, wood pallets, sheet rock, anything that could hold paint. His work adorned countless Orlando Weekly covers, businesses, and the walls of thousands of Orlando residents. Steele crashed his car on Bumby Avenue late in the evening of Saturday April, 23.

We would like to take a moment to encourage you to thank people who have made an impact on your community and in your lives. We’ll be doing the same.
