We often get photographs and tips from our Bungalower readers of things that are happening around town, so we have started featuring them on the site in a series called Eyes on the Street, in honor of our favorite urbanist Jane Jacobs.
“Don’t know if you’ve reported on this yet, but I was walking Tommy this morning and there are a bunch of plastic pink flamingos around Lake Eola, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.” – Jim Hobart, Macbeth Studio
Florida Hospital has launched an initiative around Lake Eola to call attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month and their Pink Out Initiative, which is placing hundreds of pink lawn flamingos around Lake Eola Park, and a pink Swan Boat. The boat, one of eight swan boats, represents the one in eight women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
Proceeds from Pink Out provide funding for mammogram screenings and additional testing for roughly 9,000 uninsured women since its launch in 2010.
Florida Hospital is offering $30 mammograms in 30-minutes without referrals at 13 Central Florida locations. Go to PinkOut.com for more information.
Orlandoans can support Pink Out by purchasing a flamingo HERE or simply donating HERE.
If you see something, say something! We love hearing from our readers about things happening in Orlando’s Downtown “bungalow” neighborhoods so be sure to send us photos, questions, and tips to news@bungalower.com so we can be nosy for you.
