Celeb Urban Revitalizer and Small Scale Developer, Majora Carter (Website), is the founder of Sustainable South Bronx and Green For All, and has made headlines for her achievements in economic development and sustainability and is also a Peabody Award-winning radio broadcaster and social enterprise pioneer.

Carter is the co-owner of the Boogie Down Grind Cafe in the Hunts Point neighborhood of the South Bronx, where she has helped incubate local businesses like the first boutique indoor cycling and yoga studio in the area and an upcoming food hall in a former railway station.

Carter’s Ted Talk, “Greening the Ghetto,” has been viewed over two million times and details her fight for environmental justice in the South Bronx, a clear example of how minority populations can suffer from flawed urban policies.  Watch it below:

Carter will be speaking at Rollins College on August 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Bush Science Center on her work, as a guest of the school’s Sustainability Program and Department of Environmental Studies. The event is free and open to the public.

We featured a talk with Carter and Slate.com previously on the site HERE in a past #BringToOrlando piece about Black Community-led Cooperative Economic Initiatives and community-led gentrification.
