OUC and Orlando City executives have announced that they have selected a design for a solar-powered art sculpture that will be installed the entrance to the Orlando City Soccer Stadium on the corner of West Church Street and Glenn Lane [GMap].
The design was created by a team of UCF students and features a 15-foot-tall sculpture inspired by a soccer ball, that measures almost ten feet in diameter. Each facet of the ball-shaped piece will have the team logo laser-cut into the face. A light at the center of the sculpture, powered by solar panels on the top, will shine outwards casting shadow lions onto the surrounding ground.
The name of this new sculpture is “Gyration,” which we assume means it rotates on its axis? We hope.
Congratulations to the winning UCF student team, pictured below.
