The Orange County Library System was just awarded a 2018 National Medal for Museum and Library Service, during the wee hours of May 1, 2018.
This award is the highest honor for the industry, and is given to institutions that have made “significant and exceptional contributions to their communities.” The Orange County Library System was recognized for their community support services, but in particular for their STEM education programming.
The nine other 2018 medal recipients include The Detroit Historical Society, University of Oregon’s Museum of Natural and Cultural History, and the Children’s Museum of Denver at Marsico Campus in Denver, Colorado. They were selected from 29 national finalists.
The award will be presented at an event at the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C. this May.
An added benefit of the award is that NPR’s StoryCorps will be coming to Orlando to gather stories from the community on how Orange County has created a learning environment that fostered their personal growth and development. More details to follow.
