The Downtown Arts District (Website) will be hosting Baltimore-born artist Derrick Adams at their upcoming In The Artist’s Studio event on Friday, April 20 from 6-9 p.m. at the Mezz in South Eola.

Adams currently lives and works out of Brooklyn, New York and earned his BFA at Columbia University and his MFA at the Pratt Institute. He has shown at institutions around the world and had his work profiled by The New York Times, ArtForum, and ArtNews where he was listed as one of “Ten Black Artists to Celebrate.”

Adams was most recently profiled by Hyperallergic HERE for his Figures in an Urban Landscape exhibition at Tilton Gallery (Website) in New York City.

His most recent series was inspired by The Negro Motorist Green Book, a Jim Crow-era travel magazine that shared a comprehensive listing of friendly hotels and restaurants for non-whites to patron while traveling across the country.

In The Artist’s Studio: Derrick Adams will be a semi-formal event featuring a moderated discussion with the artist himself, live entertainment, hors d’oeuvres, and limited complimentary cocktails. Tickets are available HERE for $50 per person.

The Mezz is located at 100 S. Eola Drive, Suite 200 [GMap].
