Two of Orlando’s much-touted local symbols of the holiday season are having some technical difficulties right now, because 2017.
The Happy Holidays/Happy New Year sign atop the Ivanhoe Building on the shores of Lake Ivanhoe keeps tripping the breaker and the Jack Kazanzas Star has a wonky controller box.
The latter is actually located inside the actual star, which is hanging 50 feet over Orange Avenue. The box needs to be replaced but that will have to be carried out carefully so as not to impact traffic or cause any damage. City Hall informed us that the controller is “somewhat unique” to the star and will take some time to replac
We spoke with Sandi Thompson, Executive Director of Ivanhoe Village Main Street, last week when the lights first went out at the former Ballet headquarters and she told Bungalower that the main breaker had tripped and simply needed to be reset. The lights seem to have tripped again but Thompson says they’re on it.
Before anyone accuses anyone of waging a guerrilla war on Christmas, it must be said that both lights were thoroughly tested prior to being activated for this year’s celebration. Things just happen sometimes.
There is no timeline for either project but the City has assured us that they’re working on it and that Christmas is not ruined.
