The City of Orlando is launching a public design competition to overhaul the municipal flag, which was originally designed in 1980.

Community members are asked to submit their idea for a new design by Wednesday, March 22.

Key things to keep in mind when working on your design include:

  • Keep it simple
  • Use meaningful symbolism
  • Use two to three basic colors
  • No lettering or seals
  • Be distinctive or be related

Ten finalists will be selected by members of a Flag Design Committee, to be voted on by the public through the City’s website. Those results will then go back to the Flag Design Committee who will then determine which design, based on the rankings, will be presented to the City Council for a final vote.
