The Orlando Public Library in downtown Orlando will be hosting its annual Orlando Book Festival on May 18.
The event offers a full day of author panels, talks, book signings, and writers’ workshops that are free to attend. The Vulgar Geniuses (Website), local multi-platform bookists and podcaster duo Dennie Wang and Veronica Smith, will moderate the panel “Let’s Talk About Florida: What a Weird, Wacky State We Live In” with Florida authors Rebecca Renner, Annabelle Tometich and Tyler Gillespie discussing their experiences writing about the Sunshine State.
A Key Note address by New York Times best-selling author Tayari Jones is scheduled to speak at 2 p.m. Jones published her work An American Marriage in 2018, which was named an Oprah’s Book Club Selection and appeared on Barack Obama’s summer reading list. It was awarded the Women’s Prize for Fiction (formerly known as the Orange Prize), the Aspen Words Prize, and an NAACP Image Award, and has been published in two dozen countries.
