Both the historic OUC Building Holiday sign and the Jack Kazanzas star will be turned on this weekend, marking the beginning of the holiday season in Orlando.
The “Happy Holidays” sign atop the Historic Ivanhoe Building will be lit tonight, Friday, November 18, at 5:30 p.m., the night before the Ivanhoe Village Jingle Eve event. The 12 foot sign was restored to its former glory by the City and the local Main Street group back in 2013 at the cost of $50,000. More on that HERE.
The 600-pound Jack Kazanzas star will be strung up over Orange Avenue in Downtown Orlando this Sunday at 7 a.m. The annual star-hanging is part of an ongoing tradition going back to 1955, when the star went up between two competing department stores, Iveys and Dickson and Ives. More on the star and why it was named after Jack Kaazanzas, HERE.
