The City of Orlando is accepting nominations for individuals to be posthumously honored as “Luminaries” at the new Luminary Green Park at Creative Village in Parramore.
The new 2.3-acre park, which is under construction, will serve as a new Central Park on the west side of I-4 and the Creative Village campus and will feature a series of eight-foot-tall ground-mounted light fixtures made of glass and laser-cut steel lit from within around the periphery.
Each fixture will bare the name of a notable Orlandoan, based on their outstanding contributions in the following categories.
- Public safety and crime reduction
- Quality housing
- Entrepreneurship, business and job opportunities
- Care and education for children and families
- Community health or medical leadership
- Faith-based leadership
- Sports
- Civil rights

The Luminary Selection Panel includes the following nine representatives:
- Chair: Walter Hawkins, Director of Urban Development, City of Orlando
- Representative Geraldine Thompson, Florida House of Representatives
- Byron Brooks, County Administrator, Orange County Government
- Dr. Clara Walters, Jones High School Principal 1981-1990
- Reverend Dr. Robert M. Spooney, Pastor, Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Institutional Church
- Ann Brown, resident and President of the Callahan Neighborhood Association
- Pamela Woodley, former resident/retired
- Kay Rawlins, President, Orlando City Foundation
- Lauredan Official, Jr., Parramore Kidz Zone (PKZ) Student Alumni
