The Cornell Fine Arts Museum (Website) will be getting a new home in a $22.6 million development located off of the Rollins College campus.
The museum currently operates out of the college’s visual arts building tucked away in the back of the campus by Lake Virginia, and has been tough to reach during recent renovations of adjacent student apartments. The new location will put the museum in the front of Winter Parker’s minds like its higher-profile neighbors at The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art (Website) which is perched on a prominent corner of Park Avenue.
The new 30,000 SF, two-story building, which will be called the “Rollins Museum of Art” will be three times the size of the current space and will offer study rooms, an education center, an auditorium, and a cafe, and will be located near the new Crummer School of Business building and the soon-to-be-expanded Alfond Inn.
In other art museum news, the design for the new Mennello Museum of Art building was just awarded “Best Unbuilt Design in State of Florida” by the Architect Institute of America.
