The Dr. Philllips Center for Performing Arts (Facebook | Website) has been hosting its six-month outdoor event series, the Frontyard Festival, since December 2020 and rather than wrap things up in May, they’re looking to secure funding to extend the series through the end of 2021.
The art center transformed its outdoor courtyard by installing roughly 300 5×7-foot boxes/scaffolding that seat roughly five people at a time for socially distant, outdoor seating, with an estimated max occupancy of roughly 1,900 people.
According to an amendment filed with the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) that’s up for review with the City Commission on April 12, the Dr. Phillips Center is looking for an additional $500,000 from the CRA to keep the party going for another six months, through December 15.
According to the Dr. Phillips Center, the Frontyard Festival has brought roughly 30,000 people to the downtown core to enjoy the programming in the Seneff Arts Plaza across from City Hall in the first three months.
As part of the agreement with the City, there will be at least 100 free community events to be hosted in the outdoor venue.
