As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Walt Disney World has announced that it will be laying off 720 performers, just weeks after eliminating 28,000 jobs in its California and Florida parks.
Many of those performers also participated in local productions in downtown Orlando, where the theater community has already been hit hard by the pandemic, economically-speaking.
A relief program called Greater Orlando Performing Arts Relief (GOPAR) was founded in August to help local theater professionals and area artists with small cash infusions. That initiative is still accepting donations HERE via a platform hosted by St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
Applicants looking for some financial help from GOPAR need to have worked in the performing arts industry (offstage or onstage) in the past two years and be current residents of Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole, or Volusia Counties. You can register HERE for assistance.
