UPDATE: A GoFundMe has been launched for Orlando Weekly staffers who were furloughed HERE.

Euclid Media (Website) the multimedia/event company and current owner of both Creative Loafing and Orlando Weekly, laid off staff at both papers this week.

The layoffs also affected five other papers owned by the media group, and, according to the posts linked above, were a direct result of the virus-led decline in the economy.

Orlando Weekly lost a total of 13 staff members in design, editorial, events, and sales and Creative Loafing lost seven staffers across all departments. The remaining staff of both papers is taking a 10 percent cut in pay and assuming extra roles for the interim.

Most will be paid through the end of the week but the lay off is effective immediately, according to a former Orlando Weekly employee who wished to remain anonymous.

Former Orlando Weekly and current Orlando Sentinel courts reporter, Monivette Cordeiro, shared a link, HERE, to a GoFundMe page to help raise funds for those who were laid off so suddenly in Tampa, though a local equivalent is yet to be found.

Local bi-weekly paper, Watermark, recently announced that it would also be going through some changes in service but no announcements were made concerning layoffs. The paper would be sharing more on its digital platform and social media accounts in the near future.
