“The design balances the quiet spaces necessary for the thoughtful contemplation of art, the bold forms essential to revitalizing a civic institution, and the sustainable measures required for successful contemporary development.”

– ARCHITECT MAGAZINE

The Friends of the Mennello Museum of American Art announced the selection of their winning architect team for the new $20 million+ expansion to their Lake Formosa gallery in October 2019, and they have apparently chosen well as that design just raked in a major award.

Brooks + Scarpa (Website) and KMF Architects (Website) will head the project which will add a 40,000 SF expansion to the property, integrated around the current 12,000 SF facility at 900 E. Princeton Street [GMap].

The design was selected as a winner of the 67th Annual Progressive Architecture Awards by Architect Magazine for its efforts in adapting an existing building with a simple approach reminiscent of classic Florida Modernism.

The existing 12,000 SF museum building will be wrapped in a 48,700 SF addition that will house more gallery space, a lobby, administration and conference rooms, educational facilities, and more.

A timeline for the project has not been announced at this time as they are currently ramping up for an extensive fundraising effort but you can see more renderings for the planned expansion by clicking HERE.
