Design selection by the Public Art Advisory Board was approved by the City Commission last month for a large-scale sculpture that will be installed at the new I-4 Ultimate on-ramp in Winter Park.

The winning company, RLF Architects (Website), was awarded a $150,000 budget to install at the northeastern corner of West Fairbanks and I-4. Upkeep is up to the City of Winter Park though and they’re still coming up with how that’ll work once it’s installed.

The installation will feature a long row of interconnected, multi-colored 18-foot poles along Fairbanks Avenue just west of Skycraft’s original location, leading up to the interstate.

The initiative is part of the I-4 Ultimate Art Endowment Program, funded by the I-4 Mobility Partners to the tune of $1.5 million. Six cities along the 21-mile stretch of the I-4 Ultimate corridor are responsible for choosing a winning design to be installed on their portion of the interstate. Winter Park launched its search in October 2019, which we told you about HERE. We wanted a life-size Godzilla statue but a giant game of rainbow pick-up sticks is good too.

The installation should be in place by the end of the year.
