The Thornton Park Main Street District has been working on installing “artsy” pedestrian walkways for the past few years.

Well, the wait is over as the Main Street has finally installed their first crosswalk at the intersection of Washington Street and Summerlin Avenue as of Thursday, September 19.

The intersection was closed at 10 a.m. Thursday to install the artwork and is expected to reopen by 4 p.m with a public unveiling at 1 p.m. with District 4 City Commissioner Sheehan in attendance.

The artwork features an intricate swan pattern as a tip of the hat to nearby Lake Eola and is meant to act as a visual speedbump for commuters. A rapid flashing beacon was recently installed at the same intersection earlier this year.
