WISP Orlando (Facebook), an all-female artist collective in Orlando, has painted a new mural in Thornton Park that commemorates the 100-year anniversary of the passing of the 19th Amendment.

“The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.”

– Amendment XIX

The mural has been erected on the eastern face of the building that houses Burton’s Thornton Park and Big Time Street Food Co. at 805 E. Washington Street [GMap] and features American educator/civil rights activist Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, and Florida’s first state senator, Senator Elizabeth McCullough Johnson.

WISP Orlando stands for “What Is She Painting” and the collective’s mission is to celebrate women’s history, to promote equal rights, and to inspire the community through public art.
