The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts has been undertaking a caregiver-memory loss study pilot program, one of the first of its kind in the country, which was just awarded an $85,00 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Dr. Phillips researchers are trying to measure how the performing arts can help people suffering from dementia and their caregiver and this grant will go towards resources for researchers and participants.

Applications are now being accepted for the next eight-week session of the program which will kick-off this September. Stipulations include:

  • Caregiver must be unpaid and at least 18 years of age.
  • The care recipient must be 65 years of age or older.
  • Both care recipient and caregiver must live in the community; not in a nursing or rehabilitation facility.
  • Sessions end in December 2019.
